the shoulders are too high, making her look rigid and uncomfortable.īest thing to do is to block out your anatomical forms then worry about texturing. the head is also too far back, the spine leads to the back of the skull and the skull projects forward, it doesn't sit directly above the spine. The gravity being off is probably do the the breasts being too far to our left and sagging to our bottom left. Why not find good refs and work from them while waiting for anatomy crits? that's where these crits come from anyway- actual human anatomy. Gremlins rule the world you just don't know it yet. If you don't want to mess with the head, I would personally suggest messing with the shoulders and her torso, but it could probably work all right as it is from a stylistic standpoint. Also, the way her head is turned in relation to her body, while possible, seems a little.off to me at this point. She looks kind of like she's going to fall to the side. While waiting for anatomy crits I made an attempt at texturing the head. The eye is kinda a combination of a hawk's and a human's now. I added a ref I used for the left arm and the torso on the right (from posemaniacs). The character design is pretty set in stone, but I made a test head sketch for the fun of it. The head is presently 100% bird, it might be more interesting to have more of a mix. I would worry about nailing the anatomy and forms before moving on to texturing and feathers.īetter, but honestly, no artist of whatever skill can do this kind of work in a satisfying way without refs (either life or pics). I was kind of messing around when I doodled the base in paint, so no, I didn't use any refs. Nice colors you need another brighter highlight.Īt a later refining stage I hope to see some of these reds in the feathers too! Shading is a bit inconsistent: light source is either from the right or almost overhead how can there be deep shadows on the torso? Use refs, either pics or real life. Feathers might come later more as a texture than actual volume. You should probably remove feathers (at least at this stage), to concentrate on the body shapes. The head should come forward too I think. The body doesn't really look womanly, possibly needs to show some neck, a beginning of hip on the left side, thinner and more realistic arms. Now that I look again I'm seeing tons of mistakes, but that's what the WIP forum's for, right?ĭid you use any refs? Both anatomy and shading don't look too realistic. Only laid down basic shading patterns, not pixel-refined yet.
